About Lemon’s Logic

Lemon’s Logic is logic according to Jonathan Lemon, the site proprietor (I like describing myself that way…sounds fancier than “blogger”).  Content and subject matter might change as I find my groove and discover what I like writing about. I’m currently writing about the following topics:

  • Books and Articles I’m reading
  • Unrealistic Personal Goals (e.g., running a half marathon in 2 hours or learning how to play Eruption)
  • Thoughts/Musings about things I find interesting
  • My battle with the Monkey Mind
  • Living with gratitude

My writing skills are under construction. I’m still working on improving them (and will be for as long as I’m doing this). Current bad habits include too many passive sentences, too many long sentences, and foregoing simple words if there are more interesting ones available (e.g., using “foregoing”).

The list of things I don’t understand about blogging is long. Included in that list is SEO, keyword strategies, tags, and many others. (SEO = Search Engine Optimization, or how to convince Google to pick up your posts.)

My current writing style might get lucky and include the following good things: humor, idea synthesis, and Oxford commas (if you disagree that the last thing is good, you might not enjoy this blog).  I say “might” because I may think those things are included, but they might not be. Remember, a monkey is in charge of my perception!

Why Lemon Started Logic

Hopefully I can throw some creative stuff on this blog so the right side of my brain doesn’t shrivel up any more than it already has. Common past creative outlets for me have included color formatting Excel spreadsheets, imagining worst-case scenarios, inventing reasons why I’m behind schedule, and disproving people in my head when they give me compliments.

I’d like to trade the above for something more life-affirming.  🙂 Creative output may be an uphill climb; the deck is stacked against me as an accountant with analytical traits and distorted mental filters. (Add “mixed metaphor usage” into bad writing habits.)

But I’m already having fun with this blog. Also, I enjoy learning about all the topics that come along with a blog (site design, hosting, plug-ins, SEO, etc.). And it’s cool to think that I have a web site! I’m a proprietor! I think I’ll stick with this for a while.

Logical Examples

Is Lemon’s Logic actually “logical”? Absolutely sometimes. The blog is always logical if you’ll allow me to use “logic” as a term of art within the borders of this blog.

Logical or not, the blog’s title is a hat tip to irony and a beneficiary of alliteration rather than a philosophical statement. Throughout my posts rationality might sometimes disappear, and emotions will sometimes emerge despite my efforts to function like a socially awkward robot (that’s a story for another time).

In addition to irony, Lemon’s Logic is affected by:

  • Give-and-take between reality and what my brain tries to convince me is reality; and
  • The fact that anything in life can be made more difficult if I think about it long enough. (And boy, do I love thinking about stuff 🙂 )

In practice, Lemon’s Logic** holds that:

  • Jumping out of a plane is safer than public speaking;
  • All my decisions require at least 3 hours of analysis before being made;
  • My golf game should improve even if I never practice;
  • Interpersonal conversations need planning before happening, including brainstorming any possible response by the other person.

**Future logical interpretations may change, as I’m currently upgrading my brain with mindfulness and gratitude programs.

Sounds logical, right?
